Know Your Long Island Mammals with Seatuck Biologist Mike Bottini [Video]

This talk will cover Long Island’s native mammals, including changes in the species composition found here, and their distribution and numbers over time. Mike will also discuss a new Long Island conservation campaign, the Long Island Terrestrial Mammal Survey, and how to get involved in the survey effort.

About the Speaker

Mike Bottini is currently working as a wildlife biologist with Seatuck Environmental Association on Long Island, NY where he is studying River Otters, Spotted Turtles, Eastern Coyotes, monitoring Bald Eagle nests and coordinating the 2023-2025 Long Island Mammal Survey . Past research subjects have included elk in Banff National Park while a graduate student at the University of British Columbia and Piping Plovers, Common and Least Terns while working for NYS Parks. Mike teaches “reading wildlife track and sign” and other field-oriented workshops, is the author of two nature guides (South Fork Trails and East End Paddling Guide) and the River Otter Sign & Survey Manual. He is a founder of the annual Long Island Natural History Conference
