Want to Rewild in Spring?

If you’re interested in ReWilding your property in Spring 2020 but don’t know how to go about it, you are not alone. It is often hard to know where to start - what area of your yard to choose, what the soil type, sun vs. shade and wetness conditions exist there, even what and how many plant to buy. And all these factors and more go into the planning and design aesthetic that a predominantly native plant garden will achieve.

ReWild Long Island has teamed up with well-known landscape designers, Rusty Schmidt and Mark Scaramucci, who have expertise in native perennial gardening. Together, we bring offerings to assist you:

  1. Yard Consultation

  2. ReWild Garden Design

  3. Full Yard Consultation and Design

These services are offered at a deep discount to normal pricing since we are procuring them as a group, enabling savings for all participants. We have a limited number of time-slots available.

Is one of these right for you? Please apply early as registrations close on November 15th, or sooner if services become fully subscribed. To learn more about our programs attend one of our upcoming information sessions below:

What is a Yard Consultation?
It is often hard to know what is doing well in your yard, and whether a certain bush or tree is helping or hindering the ReWilding goal.

With a yard consultation, an expert landscape designer comes to your property with a full aerial map. You will walk through your space together and identify plants that are beneficial and those that aren’t. You will discuss your objectives - whether it is to create a kitchen garden in one area, a pollinator plot in another, or simply to introduce more beneficial natives into your landscape. The professional will also help identify problem areas and how to avoid or correct them. You will get suggestions on which native plants to try out in your yard, or ideas on how to use specific areas more effectively. You will get a full set of documented recommendations to keep for your planning purposes.

How much does this cost?
The ReWild Yard Consultation costs $200 for members and $225 for non-members. You also have an option to buy the service together with a ReWild Long Island membership for $250. The membership offers discounts during the Spring Native Plant sale, as well as other services, while helping foster a fledgling local environmental organization.

Are there any restrictions?
This is the first time we are offering this unique service. So, we are planning to offer only 12 to 15 consultations this season. Further, to keep travel times under control, we can only guarantee a consultation for those that live on the Cowneck Peninsula (Port Washington, Manhasset, and environs). If you live elsewhere, we have to check with our experts before we can confirm your consultation. (If you join forces with a neighbor who signs up as well, it will make it easier for our experts.)

Moreover, the consultation is being offered on very specific days —

  1. Saturday, November 23rd 2019

  2. Tuesday, November 26th 2019

  3. Saturday, December 7th 2019

Registration will close on November 15th 2019, or earlier if this service is fully subscribed. The earlier you sign up, the more likely you are to get your dates/times.

When you register below, you can specify which dates work for you. We will accept your application only if we have availability on that date for the specialist at your location. Registrations and slot allocations are made on a first come first served basis.

What is the Garden Design Service?
If you have a place in your yard earmarked for a native plant garden, you may have questions about an appropriate selection of plants, and how to lay them out to achieve a pleasing result.

ReWild has commissioned a number of template garden designs by landscaping specialists, who have taken into account the heights of plants, their bloom colors, shapes and seasons, tolerance for sun/shade, pollinator interest, etc.

Through the Garden Design service, you pay for the designer to come to your property and adapt the most appropriate design to the space you have allocated. You will discuss your preferences together and demarcate the garden spot. Based on your input and the needs of the space, the designer will finalize a detailed list of plants and the preparation, as well as planting pattern you need to follow for best results.

You then take responsibility for preparing the space and procuring plants. You are welcome to avail yourself of the ReWild Plant Sale in Spring 2020 which is designed to cover the varieties you need (subject to availability).

Once plants are procured, the designer will come back to your space and help you lay them out in the exact spaces within the design and ensure you understand the care and maintenance requirements.

How much does this cost?
The ReWild Yard Consultation costs $400 for members and $425 for non-members. You also have an option to buy the service together with a ReWild Long Island membership for $450. The membership offers discounts during the Spring Native Plant sale, as well as other services, while helping foster a fledgling local environmental organization.

What is a Full Yard Consultation and Design?
The full yard design extends both of the services above to your full yard. If you would like to completely redesign your property, and then start working on it piecemeal,  this service is for you.

This service comes with 3 consulting sessions, as well as full ReWild Long Island membership.

On the first visit, an expert landscape designer comes to your property with a full aerial map.

Before the second visit, you will get a full set of documented recommendations to keep for your planning purposes, as well as detailed designs and plant lists by area. During the visit, you can discuss the design with the expert and request revisions as required. (Two hours of design consultation are included with this package. We have generally found these to be sufficient for most ReWilders. However, additional hours can be purchased separately.)

You then take responsibility for preparing the space and procuring plants. You are welcome to avail yourself of the ReWild Plant Sale in Spring 2020 which is designed to cover the varieties you need (subject to availability). Your ReWild membership will come in handy, as you are eligible for discounts on plant purchases.

Once plants are procured, the expert designer will come back to your space and help you lay them out in the exact spaces within the design and ensure you understand the care and maintenance requirements.

How much does this cost?
The ReWild Full Yard Consultation and Design package costs $1250 for existing members, and $1300 for non-members who will become members as part of purchasing this package. The membership offers discounts during the Spring Native Plant sale, as well as other services, while helping foster a fledgling local environmental organization.

Are there any restrictions?
The dates and times for this service are flexible and negotiated directly between you and the ReWilding expert. You can expect the first visit in the Fall, with the design finalization visit before February 15th 2020. We can only guarantee acceptance for those that live on the Cowneck Peninsula (Port Washington, Manhasset, Town of North Hempstead, and environs). If you live elsewhere, we have to check with our experts before we can confirm your spot. (If you join forces with a neighbor who signs up as well, it will make it easier for our experts.)

Registration will close on November 15th 2019, or earlier if this service is fully subscribed. The earlier you sign up, the more likely you are to get your dates/times.
