Programs on the North Fork

The North Fork Compost

Led by Mary Morgan (Co-Chair of the Community Compost Committee) we have been working on developing community compost locations where people can drop off food scraps to better the environment. These locations include community gardens (Custer Preserve), farm CSA, and ECI - Ecological Culture Initiative (eciny.org), This prevents waste within our community one step at a time!

The Rewilded GARDEN of Custer Preserve: Native Plant Garden at the arboretum

Through the partnership with Southold Peconic Civic Association - Environmental Advocacy Committee (SPCA EAC) , the Town of Southold, ReWild Long Island, the Group For The East End, and the North Fork Pollinator Pathway - Suffolk Alliance for Pollinators (NFPP SAP) 3500 sq. ft of overgrown, invasive plant species was overturned and replaced with new prosperous soil and plants! Under the guidance of Maggie Muzante ambitious volunteers destroyed weeds, adopted irrigation systems, and developed a beautiful garden that Custer Preserve needed.

In the Works…

Partnering with Slow food east end, North fork Audubon, and other OPEN-MINDED organizations

  • Our Goal - to communicate and branch out to other organizations to reduce food waste within Long Island (30% of food is wasted in America)
