  • TONH Beach Park, Port Washington: The Town of North Hempstead Beach Park is establishing oyster beds and restoring the shellfish population. Help raise baby oysters that will be released in Hempstead Harbor to support marine life and clean our waterways by removing bacteria and filtering up to 50 gallons of water per day. Garden oysters with us to improve water quality on Long Island and protect our local environment.

  • Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Shelter Rock (UUCSR) Preserve, Manhasset: The 100-acre grounds of the UUCSR are home to wildflower gardens and a very large Preserve. Help clear invasive plants and learn how coyotes are making a comeback.

  • **NEW ACTIVITY: DESIGN A SUSTAINABLE GARDEN: Students will work on designing their own sustainable gardens throughout the Sunday Zoom sessions from July 9th - August 27th. FAQ

  • You should have your applications in by May 5, 2023. Interviews start on May 6, 2023. We will prioritize earlier applicants for interviews first.

We hope to let everyone know the decisions by early June. Some late spots may open up after that.

  • You have to be present for training week (June 25 to July 1)

Otherwise, yes, you are eligible. You can apply for internships or volunteer roles, but given that we have a limited number of internships, we prioritize those that can be present more of the time.

For internships, we will ask that you make up those weeks. The earlier you know, the more likely that you’ll be able to reschedule to your satisfaction.

If you need more flexibility, you can definitely apply and qualify to join the program as a volunteer. You will participate in all activities when you’re here. Assuming you do a good job, we will certainly include you in commendation awards and give you a good reference.

  • See the tentative schedule above. That should give you a good idea of what each week will be like.

Our schedule is not finalized yet. However, we do know that activities will be scheduled during the day on weekdays and weekends during summer break and will be in the evenings and weekends after school starts (after Labor Day).

If you’re committed to something else over the summer, do apply and express your constraints. We can keep you notified of activities, and you apply as a volunteer instead of an intern.

  • You can definitely apply and participate in the program even if you don’t live in the area as long as you can commit to being at your work locations at the scheduled times.

Given that we have a limited number of scholarships, we prioritize those that are local. Depending on your level of engagement, we can consider you for one if we have the funding.

  • Please check your email or have someone check them. All our communications to you will go out by email. We will use your mobile number if there is some urgency or last minute change of interview schedule.
