Our mission is to provide trustworthy local answers about native plants, soil, lawns, water, and wildlife — and opportunities to help through community action. Recent advances in AI may give us an opening to advance that mission with locally relevant, conversational guidance in English and Spanish, making our message more accessible to all.

That's what led our Board, on August 19, 2026, to authorize a small, limited pilot: a Responsible AI-Powered Landcare Hub, funded by a local grant. The idea is simple: test whether a carefully sourced, energy-efficient tool can help Long Islanders find reliable local guidance, connect with existing experts and organizations, and take a useful next step in their own yard or neighborhood.

We know AI can create real problems — heavy energy and water use, inaccurate information, privacy risks, and loss of trust. That's why we're starting small: using human-reviewed local sources, seeking permission and giving credit to contributors, and sharing what we learn publicly. This is a closed pilot through March 2027 — not a public launch, and not a replacement for local educators, partners, or professional advice.
