About the pilot

ReWild is here to give Long Islanders trustworthy local answers about native plants, soil, lawns, water, and wildlife, and to help neighbors take action together. AI might help us do more of that, with local, conversational guidance in English and Spanish that reaches more people.

On August 19, 2026, our Board approved a small pilot to find out. It's called the Responsible AI-Powered Landcare Hub, and a local grant is paying for it. We want to see if a carefully sourced, energy-efficient tool can help people find good local advice, connect with the experts and groups already doing this work, and take positive steps in their own yard or neighborhood.

We know AI raises real worries. It uses a lot of energy and water, and . So we're starting small. The Hub will draw on local sources that people have reviewed. We'll ask contributors for permission and give them credit, and we'll share what we learn in public.

The pilot runs through March 2027. It's a closed pilot, not a public launch. We'll keep relying on our local educators, partners, and professionals, and the Hub won't replace them.

Now we'd love your help shaping it. What should the Hub do? What safeguards does it need? Every view is welcome, including yours, even if you'd rather we not use AI at all.
