  • Blydenburgh County Park Smithtown, NY United States (map)

Dog-friendly

Walks start promptly; arrive 15 mins early.

Inclement weather cancels.

This walk is held in conjunction with a webinar in January 2026: Join Enrico Nardone, Executive Director of the Seatuck Environmental Association, for an eye-opening look at the rare opportunity Suffolk County has to restore the Nissequogue River by not rebuilding the Stump Pond Dam, which failed in August 2024. This guided walk will give us a look at the native revegetation around the Nissequogue River in Blydenburgh County Park and the failed Stump Pond Dam.

Enrico will show how allowing the river to run free can:

  • create a healthier, more climate-resilient ecosystem

  • improve habitat for many native species

  • enhance public recreation

  • save millions in taxpayer dollars

Gain a clear understanding of what’s at stake, why this decision matters for our local environment, and how community voices can help shape the river’s future.
