Join TVHS and ReWild at the Setauket Neighborhood House on Thursday, January 29th at 7 pm for a hands-on learning experience.
Together, we will sow native seeds in milk jugs to get ready for Spring planting.
Sow 1 for the native gardens at the historical society, and 1 to take home for yourself!
This event is free and open to the public - registration is required.
what you’ll do in the workshop
Learn the easy way to sprout native seeds over the winter to jump-start your pollinator garden in the spring.
Have fun, scoop dirt, choose your seeds, meet new people and take home your own, ready-to-sprout seed nursery.
why sow seeds in winter?
Winter seed sowing is a simple way to plant seeds outdoors during the colder months, letting nature do the work. Seeds experience natural freezing and thawing cycles over winter, which break their dormancy, then germinate when conditions are right in spring.
The seeds of many native plants, and some vegetables, need exposure to cold temperatures in order to sprout.
Who can attend
No experience necessary. This workshop is best for adults, even though many of our workshops are family-friendly.
what to BRING
1 gallon plastic milk jug — bring one, or a couple. We’ll have some spares.
