ReWild Garden at Irmisch Historical Park
about Irmisch Historical Park
Formally named: Lindenhurst Historical Society 1901 Restored Long Island Rail Road Depot and Freight House Community Garden at Irmisch Park in Village of Lindenhurst.
Located at the intersection of South Broadway and South Third street in Lindenhurst, this museum provides us with a glimpse at the early Lindenhurst railroad station and the role both the Depot and the Rail Road played in the 1870 founding of the City of Breslau, now Lindenhurst.
The community garden features a variety of plants found in the area during this early period, many of which were used for their medicinal purposes as well as for food. Many of these plants, which are called weeds by some, may still be found in both natural and disturbed areas of Long Island. These plants make great additions to the home garden as they have evolved to live in our unique environment, do not require additional fertilization and watering many exotic species require, and provide a food source for our native pollinators..
