ReWild Garden at St. Michael’s Housing
About St. Michael’s Housing
St. Michael’s Housing in Amagansett, NY was awarded the 2026 ReWild grant. The previous year, its sister property, Windmill Village, received the same grant, which helped enhance the community garden for its residents.
St. Michael’s Housing is a 40-unit apartment complex that serves seniors and individuals with disabilities. The new garden initiative aims to offer a welcoming and inclusive space for both residents of St Michael’s Housing and members of the St. Michaels Lutheran Church congregation.
The garden’s circular layout was thoughtfully designed and constructed through collaboration between church members and residents. It provides a safe pathway for walking and areas where people can sit, reflect, and enjoy the environment. This tranquil setting invites residents and church members alike to relax and appreciate the plantings. Every plant chosen has been carefully picked to represent the native species found in our region.
Volunteers from both the Housing community and the Church have played a key role in planting and caring for the garden. Members maintain the garden each week for everyone’s enjoyment.
With the generous support of numerous local businesses, we were able to enhance our garden by adding benches, stones, lighting, and tools that assist us in its maintenance.
